Man indicted in connection to previous fire at Turner Hall Club in Fredericksburg


FREDERICKSBURG – One man was formally charged with one indictment in connection to the June 19, 2016 fire at the Turner Hall Club in Gillespie County, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department.

A Gillespie County, Texas Grand Jury in the 216th Judicial District Court met on June 3, 2019, for the case investigation hearing in regards to the business/structure fire that totally destroyed the Turner Hall Club.

It was the decision of the Grand Jury to formally charge Arthur Cortez, 43, with, as defined in Texas Penal Code, Burglary of a Building which was enhanced due to multiple prior convictions.

The Fredericksburg Police Department stated that at this time, the Grand Jury decided to pass on formally charging Cortez with Arson or Criminal Mischief.

Cortez is currently in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Prison system serving time for other criminal charges.
